Food guide

Halibut

Halibut is a nutrient-dense, firm white fish that is ideal for introducing seafood to your baby's diet. Its mild, slightly sweet taste is generally well-received by infants just starting solids.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Steam a thick, skinless fillet and serve in large, manageable chunks or strips that baby can hold. 9-12 months: Offer small, flaked pieces that are easy for baby to pick up and practice chewing. 12+ months: Serve cooked pieces as part of a balanced meal, perhaps paired with roasted vegetables.

Nutrition

Halibut is a stellar source of lean protein and essential minerals like selenium, which supports a healthy immune system. It also contains trace amounts of omega-3 fatty acids that are critical for your baby's brain and eye development.

A note from the editors

Store fresh halibut in the coldest part of your refrigerator and use within 24 hours for the best quality and flavor.

Good to know

Watch for any signs of an allergic reaction during the first few exposures. Since halibut is a firm fish, ensure it is cooked thoroughly until it flakes easily to minimize any choking risks.
