Mozarella

Mozzarella can be introduced around 6-9 months. Fresh mozzarella is softer; shredded works well too.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Offer shredded or small pieces of fresh mozzarella. 9-12 months: Serve melted on foods or in small pieces. 12-24 months: Include in various dishes.

Nutrition

Good source of calcium and protein. Contains vitamin B12 and phosphorus. Lower in sodium than many cheeses.

A note from the editors

Fresh mozzarella has better flavor and texture than pre-shredded. It melts beautifully on pasta and pizza.

Good to know

Dairy is a common allergen. Fresh mozzarella is softer and lower in sodium. String cheese can be a choking hazard.
