Dates Fruit

Dates can be introduced around 6 months when pitted and prepared safely. They're very sweet and sticky.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Puree pitted dates or chop very finely and mix with other foods. 9-12 months: Offer small, soft pieces mixed with other foods. 12-24 months: Serve chopped as a natural sweetener.

Nutrition

Good source of fiber, potassium, and magnesium. Contains iron and B vitamins. Natural energy source.

A note from the editors

Medjool dates are softer and easier to prepare. Soak dried dates in warm water if too firm.

Good to know

Always remove pits. Very sticky and can stick to teeth - offer with other foods. High in natural sugar - serve in moderation.
