Food guide

Haddock

Haddock is an excellent, mild-flavored white fish that is perfect for early solids. It provides a soft, flaky texture that is easy for babies to manage when beginning their self-feeding journey.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Steam or bake a fillet until it flakes easily, serving a large finger-sized strip for baby to grasp. 9-12 months: Offer bite-sized, de-boned flakes that encourage the use of the pincer grasp. 12+ months: Serve as flaked pieces on top of cooked grains or mixed into pasta dishes.

Nutrition

This fish is packed with high-quality protein necessary for growth and development. It also offers essential B vitamins, specifically B12, which supports nerve function and healthy blood cells in growing infants.

A note from the editors

Haddock pairs beautifully with gentle herbs like parsley or mild mashed sweet potato for a nutrient-dense meal.

Good to know

As a common allergen, serve it for the first time in the morning when you can monitor for reactions. Always ensure all bones have been carefully removed before serving to avoid choking hazards.
