Food guide
Black Beans
Black beans can be introduced around 6 months. They're nutrient-dense and have a mild, slightly sweet flavor.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Mash cooked black beans well. 9-12 months: Offer whole soft beans or mashed. 12-24 months: Include in various dishes like burritos and soups.
Nutrition
Excellent source of plant protein, fiber, and iron. Rich in folate, magnesium, and antioxidants.
A note from the editors
Rinse canned beans to reduce sodium by up to 40%. Dried beans are more economical and have better texture.
Good to know
Cook thoroughly - undercooked beans can cause digestive issues. Mash to prevent choking on whole beans.
