Cucumber

When a baby is ready to begin solid foods, which is typically around 6 months old, cucumber may be offered.

How to serve at this age

Additionally, grated cucumbers can be used to dishes like yogurt or muffins. 6–9 months old: You may consider to serve big spears of cucumber with the skin on so that the baby can easily grab and eat them. 9-12 months old: To improve nutrition, serve cucumbers alongside a dish heavy in protein or fat and cut into long, wide, and thin slices with or without the skin. Do not offer cucumber in large sticks, now your baby may be able to break off larger pieces. 12-24 months old: Toddlers may now pick up cucumbers that have been chopped into simple rounds.

Nutrition

95 percent of a cucumber is water. Cucumbers include trace levels of carotenoids, which the body uses to produce vitamin A and maintain good vision.

Good to know

For infants and young children, firm or hard raw veggies pose a choking risk. Cucumber allergies are extremely rare.
