Green Beans

Green beans can be introduced around 6 months. They're a mild-flavored vegetable that most babies tolerate well.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Puree or mash well-cooked green beans. 9-12 months: Serve soft, cooked green beans cut lengthwise as finger food. 12-24 months: Offer whole steamed green beans or in mixed dishes.

Nutrition

Good source of fiber, vitamin K, and vitamin C. Contains folate and some protein. Low in calories.

A note from the editors

Fresh or frozen green beans have better texture than canned. Snap off ends and any strings before cooking.

Good to know

Cook until very soft to prevent choking. Cut lengthwise for younger babies to reduce choking risk.
