Food guide
Parsnip
Parsnips can be introduced around 6 months when cooked until soft. They have a sweet, earthy flavor.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Steam or roast until soft and puree or mash. 9-12 months: Offer soft cooked pieces. 12-24 months: Include in roasted vegetables and soups.
Nutrition
Good source of fiber, vitamin C, and folate. Contains potassium and manganese. Sweeter than carrots.
A note from the editors
Parsnips become sweeter after frost exposure. Roasting caramelizes their natural sugars.
Good to know
Must be cooked - raw parsnip is too hard. Peel before cooking. Becomes very sweet when roasted.
