Ingredients

  • 2 thin baby rice cakes (unsalted)
  • 1/4 ripe avocado
  • 2 tablespoons cooked salmon (flaked, bones removed)

Method

  1. 01

Choose a thin, soft rice cake suitable for babies (low-salt variety). Break into halves or thirds if large.

  2. 02

Mash ripe avocado in a small bowl until smooth and creamy.

  3. 03

Spread mashed avocado generously over each rice cake piece.

  4. 04

Flake cooked or canned salmon (ensure all bones removed) and place a small amount on top of the avocado.

  5. 05

Serve immediately. The avocado helps the salmon stay in place.

How to offer

Place rice cake pieces on the high chair tray. Always supervise during feeding. At 6 months, rice cakes soften quickly and are very safe. Ensure rice cakes are the soft, thin variety — not hard puffed rice cakes which can be a choking risk.

Storage

Best served immediately. Components can be stored separately — avocado with lemon juice to prevent browning for up to 4 hours. Salmon refrigerated up to 2 days.
