Salmon

Salmon can be introduced around 6 months. It's one of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids for brain development.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Flake cooked salmon and mix with vegetables. 9-12 months: Offer soft flakes as finger food. 12-24 months: Serve in larger pieces or salmon cakes.

Nutrition

Excellent source of omega-3 DHA and EPA, protein, and vitamin D. Contains B vitamins and selenium.

A note from the editors

Canned salmon with bones is safe and provides extra calcium - mash the soft bones. Remove skin if desired.

Good to know

Fish is a common allergen. Check for bones carefully. Wild salmon has more omega-3s than farmed.
