Ingredients

  • 1 medium yam (about 300g)
  • 1–2 tablespoons water or breast milk/formula

Method

  1. 01

Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Wash and scrub the yam thoroughly under cold running water.

  2. 02

Pierce the yam several times with a fork to allow steam to escape during baking.

  3. 03

Place directly on the oven rack or on a foil-lined baking tray. Bake for 45–50 minutes until the flesh is completely soft and a knife inserts without resistance.

  4. 04

Allow to cool until safe to handle, then slice open and scoop out the flesh into a bowl.

  5. 05

Mash with a fork or potato masher until smooth. Add a tablespoon of water or breast milk/formula to achieve desired consistency.
