Cheddar Cheese

Cheddar cheese can be introduced around 6-9 months. It's a good source of protein and calcium.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Offer thin strips or grated cheese. 9-12 months: Serve shredded or in thin strips - not cubes. 12-24 months: Include in various dishes or as snacks.

Nutrition

Excellent source of calcium and protein. Contains vitamin A, B12, and phosphorus. High in saturated fat.

A note from the editors

Aged cheddar has stronger flavor but also more sodium. Mild cheddar is better for babies.

Good to know

Dairy is a common allergen. Choose mild cheddar for younger babies. Watch sodium content - some cheddars are very salty. Cut food no larger than 1 cm (about half an inch), and keep round, hard or slippery foods quartered lengthways until age 4.
