Cinnamon can be introduced around 6 months in small amounts. It's a warming spice that adds sweetness without sugar.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Add a tiny pinch to oatmeal, fruit purees, or sweet potatoes. 9-12 months: Use in baking and breakfast dishes. 12-24 months: Include in various sweet and savory dishes.

Nutrition

Contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. May help regulate blood sugar. Very low in calories.

A note from the editors

Cinnamon pairs wonderfully with apples, bananas, and oatmeal. A little goes a long way.

Good to know

Use Ceylon cinnamon when possible - it's safer than Cassia cinnamon for regular use. Start with tiny amounts.
