Feeding your 11-month-old: three meals, two snacks
By eleven months solids are a growing share of your baby's calories. A typical day settles into three meals, two snacks and two or three milk feeds. It's also a good month to practise with a spoon and an open cup ahead of the changes at one year.
- Meals a day
- 3, plus 2 snacks
- Portion
- Appetite-led
- Milk
- 2–3 feeds, offered apart from meals
- Texture
- Chopped family food
A full day of eating
Three meals, a mid-morning and a mid-afternoon snack, and two or three milk feeds is the usual structure. You don't need every food group at every meal, just balance across the day. Offer milk at different times from meals, because a feed right before food blunts appetite.
Spoon and cup practice
Let your baby hold a spoon of their own, preloaded with thick yogurt or porridge that clings. Offer water in an open or free-flow cup at every meal and snack. Both skills take weeks of messy practice, and both make the 12-month transition easier.
When appetite dips
Around this age many babies get pickier as they become more independent and more interested in moving than eating. Keep offering a variety without pressure, serve one food you know they like at each meal, and eat together. Food refusal is usually a phase.
Make it manageable
Cook in batches: a Bolognese, a lentil soup or a tray of roasted vegetables can cover two or three meals and freeze in portions. Keep a rotation of five or six quick breakfasts. A banana and toast is a perfectly valid dinner on a hard day.

Common questions
How much milk does an 11-month-old need?+
Usually around 500–600 ml of formula a day, or breastfeeds on demand, spread over two or three feeds. Solids now provide a growing share of energy.
Will more solid food help my baby sleep through the night?+
No. There's no good evidence that extra food helps babies sleep longer. Sleep development is driven by brain maturity, not a full stomach.
