Food guide
Oats
When a baby is ready to begin solid foods, which is typically around 6 months old, oats may be offered. They are a versatile, nutritious whole grain.
How to serve at this age
Beside oat meal, oat flour is a fantastic substitute for all-purpose flour in lots of recipes. Oats also are great options to coat slippery foods when offering your baby. 6-9 months old: Oatmeal can be prepared with water, breast milk, formula, or whole cow's milk when it has been introduced safely. 9-12 months old: Continue offering oatmeal and you can try to give it with a spoon or balls shaped. 12-24 months old: Let's try new oat dishes as finger meals, like as meatballs, energy balls, or pancakes.
Nutrition
Contains protein, B1 and B5 vitamins, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, and manganese. A fantastic source of soluble fibers as well. Oats must be administered with water in the form of oatmeal or water can be given after consuming an oat-based recipe in order to have a stool-loosening effect. In addition to being rich in nutritious carbs, oatmeal and oats also include beta-glucan, a unique type of fiber that is particularly good for the gut and immune system. With smaller levels of other minerals, such as folate, choline, iron, magnesium, and selenium, to name a few, they are a wonderful source of zinc, which promotes a baby's immune system, sense of taste, and sense of smell.
A note from the editors
In addition to being safe for babies, regular instant oatmeal can introduce them to a wider variety of textures than infant cereals. Simply be careful to carefully read labels and choose items without added sugars.
Good to know
Oatmeal and cooked oats don't particularly increase the danger of choking. Although responses to oats have been observed, allergies to oats are not frequently caused by them.
